What is TERRAINO?

TERRAINO is a Lego-like, click together, three dimensional terrain system you build for pennies a piece using tracing templates, foamboard, glue, craft paint and other inexpensive materials.

TERRAINO is compatible with any tabletop gaming system that makes use of standard 28 millimeter miniatures including Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Warhammer 40k and others.

The TERRAINO construction manuals provide the instructions, tools, templates and textures needed to make TERRAINO pieces.

Why should I pay for TERRAINO when there are free options?

TERRAINO is the culmination of thousands of hours of research and development - all intended to make the best craftable modular terrain system that is also ridiculously inexpensive and easy to make by almost anyone.

TERRAINO Manuals and supplies are also consistently rated 5 stars.

More reasons others have chosen TERRAINO:

1) TERRAINO manuals with their included templates, tools and textures take out the guesswork and lead you step by step from the absolute beginnings of building the system to having a full set of TERRAINO pieces you can use for years to come. There are thousands of videos online talking about how to make tabletop terrain (there’s over 120,000 videos on Google) and, while they are great for learning basic crafting techniques, when it comes to specifics like step-by-step instructions, free videos fall short.

2) TERRAINO is designed with a fanatical dedication to keeping the system simple to build and crazy inexpensive all while being a great modular terrain system that looks amazing. Do a search for tabletop terrain systems on Google (there's over 4 million search items) and you'll find a wide range in quality and cost. A lot of the less expensive systems are flimsy, don't work that well and/or don't look good. The higher end terrain systems - while looking amazing - are often crazy expensive while still requiring you to paint them! And high end terrain pieces cost dollars per piece, eating up your hobby budget with little to show for it.

3) TERRAINO doesn’t need you to measure perfectly, cut perfectly or do any of the steps perfectly. Just trace the pieces from the templates and cut them out. TERRAINO takes into account human error and still works fine even if your pieces aren’t picture perfect. Many other terrain systems rely on expensive tools - some costing over $100 - since the measurements have to be so precise.

4) TERRAINO is fast to learn. You are paying for less - less videos to watch, less instructions to sift through, less to know to make great terrain. To learn to build TERRAINO, all you need to do is look through a couple of manuals and watch a handful of videos.

5) TERRAINO is fast to make. No hours of 3D printing just to get a handful of terrain or - worse yet - failed prints. Most TERRAINO pieces take less than a minute to make.

6) Most terrain systems don't have the features that TERRAINO does:

  • TERRAINO setups stick together so you can assemble pieces ahead of time, place them on your table when needed and take them off when you don't.
  • You can construct multi-story structures that you can then remove whole floors from for easy play. Other systems are not 3 dimensional and/or stackable like TERRAINO.
  • Special effects like LED lighting are built into the TERRAINO system. Using LED's and small batteries, you can light up your TERRAINO - all for pennies.
  • Modular Roof systems for actual buildings on your tabletop. Don't just make building interiors. Make entire, complete buildings.
  • Infinite reusability since all TERRAINO pieces are reusable and reconfigurable
  • Even individual TERRAINO pieces are themselves modular allowing you to transform walls into archways, arrow slits, windows and more!
  • Pieces are so inexpensive that you aren't limited by your budget. Most TERRAINO pieces are less than 10 cents worth of materials.

How should I start with TERRAINO?

Get the TERRAINO Dungeons Starter Bundle. It contains the instructions, tools and templates you'll need to learn you how to make all the core TERRAINO pieces. Every other TERRAINO manual builds on the tools, templates and techniques in this bundle.

Once you have the Dungeons Starter Bundle, read through the Quickstart Manual in the bundle. It'll tell you what tools and materials to pick up so you can build your TERRAINO set.

After that, read through the Dungeon Basics Manual. It'll show you how to build all the core TERRAINO pieces including floor tiles, walls, doors and archways.

Where do I get the supplies needed to build TERRAINO?

All the supplies you'll need to build the different TERRAINO pieces are detailed in the TERRAINO manuals and are available from Dollar Tree, Walmart and similar stores. In the unlikely event that items aren't available locally, you can get what ever you need at the TERRAINO Amazon Store.

I'm not artistic. Can I make TERRAINO?

Building TERRAINO is as simple as following the written instructions and using the included templates. Artistic talent - including the ability to draw or do detailed painting - is not required at all.

What is the grid scale used in TERRAINO?

The grid scale used in TERRAINO is 1.5 by 1.5 inches. This is on the larger side of grids used for games like D&D and Pathfinder because the larger grid size makes room for the overhang of walls attached to the grid allowing for miniatures to be placed in rooms and hallways that are only 1 grid square wide. It also makes sight lines better at the table as rooms are more spread out.

Can my young kids help make TERRAINO?

Absolutely. In fact, TERRAINO is a fun family activity for many. Just make sure that young children stay away from tasks that use either a sharp blade or hot glue. Tasks such as tracing, decorating and paint the TERRAINO pieces are perfect for small hands and really give kids the feeling of making a meaningful contribution to the family TERRAINO set.

My friend has some TERRAINO pieces. Will they work with TERRAINO pieces I build?

Yes. TERRAINO is designed to be standardized and compatible with all other TERRAINO pieces. Groups of friends often craft their own TERRAINO sets and then combine them into one big TERRAINO set for game nights!

How long does it take to make TERRAINO?

Like so many learned skills in life, the longer you do them, the faster you get at doing them. That being said, your first full sized 20 by 20 inch floor tile will take you the longest to make - probably about 2 hours - while basic wall pieces take mere seconds to make, even for a TERRAINO beginner.

The good news is that the TERRAINO pieces that take the longest to build - like the floor tile - are also the pieces you need the least of while the pieces you need the most of - like wall pieces - are by far the fastest to make.

Are there physical versions of the TERRAINO manuals?

There are no physical versions of the TERRAINO manuals. All the TERRAINO manuals exist as interactive pdf files, viewable on almost any device with a screen.

Any plans to make physical versions of the TERRAINO manuals?

There are no plans currently to offer printed versions of the manuals. There are several reasons for this:

1) Since TERRAINO is designed to be low cost, printing the manuals as paper books would greatly increase the cost of the system.

2) A printed version would lose all the interactive features of the manuals. This means that all clickable items that let you quickly navigate around the manuals, give you access to accompanying tutorial videos, or link to the items you'll need to build TERRAINO would be lost.

3) Printed versions would not be updateable. As an owner of a TERRAINO manual, you get updates for free with your purchase for the lifetime of the manual. You can see a list of recent updates here. Printed versions would not have this feature and would most likely be out of date.

4) You always have the option to print out all or parts of the manuals for less than a pre-printed book would cost.

Is there TERRAINO for my sci-fi, western, insert-setting-here game?

Sort of. Once you learn to build TERRAINO pieces, it’s only a matter of changing the cosmetic appearance of the pieces to suit many different settings. Various techniques to change the appearance of your TERRAINO pieces can be found throughout all the TERRAINO manuals.

You can also check out the TERRAINO Image Gallery on the TERRAINO Discord to see examples of how TERRAINO builders just like you customized their TERRAINO sets for their games.

Does my entire order have to be physical products to get the shipping discount?

No. Any products in your order - whether needing shipping or not - count towards the $40 or more required to qualify for free USA shipping.

Does TERRAINO come as a kit with materials to build the pieces?

No. TERRAINO is designed to use materials from stores like Walmart and Dollar Tree. This means that you should be able to source everything locally meaning you won’t have to pay for shipping or wait for items to be delivered. This keeps costs for TERRAINO down and allows you to get started as fast as possible. In the unlikely event that there is something you can't get locally, the Amazon GameGearMaster Online store has you covered.

I can’t get the paper off the foamboard. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that you are using the Readi-Board brand of foam board sold nationwide and in Canada at Dollar Tree stores and worldwide on Amazon. Other foamboard brands will most likely be more difficult to peel the paper off of.

In some instances, even Readi-Board can be a challenge to peel. This is usually because the Readi-Board has been sitting out on a store shelf for a long time but there is a simple solution!

Spray or wipe on a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. You should almost instantly see the paper start falling off the foam but, for best results, let it sit at least 30 minutes. After that, it should peel right off.
