Conquest of Steys

Conquest of Steys

While not considered a conquest at the time, King Bernard of Agraine used the Steyish Succession Crisis of 1687-1688 to his advantage. When the elderly Queen Eleanor died without a direct descendant, numerous claimants called their banners and raced to the capitol to crown themselves. Agraine backed the infant Reginald of Calis, a great-great grandnephew of the Queen, with the full force of its military. Reginald was invested as the first Grand Duke of Steys and King Bernard served as Regent for the area until Reginald reached the age of majority.
