Ever felt like there was no real difference between when your players found gold pieces, gems or jewelry? These additional rules for 5e lay out a way to make gems and jewelry more valuable and unique to your players.
Players can socket gems in clothing, arms and armor as well as in jewelry to get bonuses ranging from additional damage to buffs to saving throws to damage reduction to advantage on death saving throws. If players equip all gem'd items of a type, they also get a set bonus! These rules give players another avenue for character progression and makes the moment when players find gems and jewelry all that much more exciting!
